I checked out the first Fake Fruit album, which I hadn’t played in awhile. They have a new one coming out later this year I’m looking forward to hearing. I got my first listen to TV Smith’s new album Handwriting. I think it’s my favorite of his solo stuff so far. It’s great. I’ve played the new Bed Maker album once so far. Really great.

The Adverts Rehearsal Tape 12” is here!

Larry Hardy of In The Red Records and I are extra stoked about this record. You might have seen bootlegs of the Adverts practice tape and sadly, you might have heard the low-fi wrong speed, missing a song bootlegs that have been in circulation. I was able to get the tape the Adverts sent to Chiswick Records in search of a record deal. It sounded much better than the bootlegs. I asked TV Smith if Larry and I could put it out. He said yes. Ian MacKaye and I transferred the tape at Tonal Park in Takoma, MD. We sent the tracks to Mikey Young for mastering. The record came out sounding great and it’s a true bit of Punk Rock history by one of the great bands of the genre. In a perfect rookie error made by two old men who should know better, the two columns of the liner notes on the inner sleeve are reversed so you have to read the right column first. Sorry! Anyway, the record is really cool and it’s available right now. We didn’t make many so you might want to move on it sooner than later.

I just got my copy of the Dr. Sure’s album in the mail a few days ago and had a chance to check it out. I think it’s the best record they’ve ever done. Looking forward to getting the tracks happening for you. I know we played some of the tracks but we’ll get into the rest of them. Very cool record. 

You might know that Larry Hardy and I are always looking to put out a cool record and we’ve done it again. The test pressings came back weeks ago and we liked them and went ahead with the pressing. That came back and everyone’s happy with it. I’m waiting on Larry to get word to me as to when it’s at the distributor. I think this will be very soon. We’re SO INTO this one! My copies are in the mail, so hopefully I’ll be able to hear it in the next few days. Can’t wait to tell you more about this one. 

My next book, Stay Fanatic!!! Vol. 4 will be out later this year. I’ll let you know. All first edition copies will be signed.

And there’s a cool 12” Larry Hardy and I have been working on for the last few months. We got test pressings a few weeks ago and they sounded great. It should be with us soon. The weather is changing and it’s been very inspiring for making our play lists. Fanatic! As far as I’m concerned, winter is only days from ending. I know it might be very cold where you are but March first is the start of Fanatic Spring and we’ve got a show for March 2 almost ready.

Fanatic, I think I might have told you last year about one of the coolest records released in a long time. It’s a 3LP 1 7” box set by Devo called Art Devo 1973-1977 on the awesome Futurismo label.

As the title references, it’s a compilation of unreleased Devo, from the collections of Devo men Jerry Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh. You might have some of the other Devo retrospectives that feature some unreleased tracks like Recombo DNA, which is great and totally worth having but this compilation is over two hours of Devo you’ve never heard. 

If you were a fan of the amazing Hardcore Devo series, on the excellent Superior Viaduct label Art Devo is along those lines.

I’ve listened to the Art Devo set multiple times and it’s mind blowing from start to finish. The only draw back to this incredible release was there was only 1500 pressed in three color variants, four if you count the test pressing. It sold through in a minute and then went to the usual places to be “flipped” and sold for non spud friendly prices. However, things got better. In April the 3LP variant will be coming out with distribution in the USA. I just got digital tracks from the set and will be able to start putting them into our show soon. A lot of bands and musicians have been inspired by Damo and Can. Mark E. Smith and John Dwyer are two. I’m listening to Ege Bamyasi now. 

I’ve been getting in some great listening. Last night I checked out the Power Station album by Freak Genes. Thanks to Fanatic Brandon for the heads up on this cool band.

Fanatic, did you know last night was the 50 year anniversary of the last Stooges show at the Michigan Palace? I absolutely listened to Metallic ‘K.O.

Meet Jaguar 777

Jaguar 777: A dangerous duo hopped up on lust ridden croons and primitive rhythms operating on the fringes of a gloomy seductive nightlife. These two bad seeds are making sex soaked soundtracks, putting their leather and velvet on the razor’s edge. This 21st century Bonnie & Clyde will move you, shake you and haunt your dreams.

Jaguar 777 is a music and performance act created by artists Kacie Marie and Emmett O’Connor in the rust belt wastelands of Cleveland Ohio. Their raw rock n’ roll roots combined with psychedelic harmonies are brought to life through primitive mono 45s and sultry cinema. Manager and RnR overlord King Khan has described their sound as, “Suicide meets Link Wray with Jayne Mansfield singin’!”

Kacie Marie is an accomplished artist who has garnered worldwide recognition for her sonically striking music and immersive videos and short films. Her unique blend of media have created an audiovisual universe for her sexual antipop sound. Her last EP Holy was a collaboration with 7x Grammy, 2x Emmy nominated producer Joel Hamilton. Kacie Marie’s art is transcendent and provocative: Jaguar 777 is no exception.

Emmett O’Connor began his rock n’ roll journey as a snotty teen punk roaming the streets of Cleveland. Together with his brother Cullen they formed the organ-drum duo Archie and the Bunkers. Over the last several years, the garage-punk outfit toured the world, releasing records on In The Red, Third Man, Dirty Water and Norton; sharing the stage with acts such as Iggy Pop, The Sonics, Dick Dale, The Mummies, 5678s and many more.
