KCRW BERLIN #002

19-07-19

Fanatic! Here we are back for our second show. Again, I can’t explain how happy Engineer Am-Rock and I are to be back with you for our second show.

It’s Friday night, for me at least, the best night of the week. I think for me, it’s from the memory of how much I didn’t enjoy school and Friday night was the beginning of at least one day of freedom. Sundays were a drag and still are, so I’m all about Friday.

We design our show according to season, which obviously takes in temperature and light cycle. Knowing it’s going to be hot in Berlin when we’re on the air with you, we planned what will hopefully be a great soundtrack to get the weekend off to a great start.

Sister Midnight is one of the best songs ever, and a perfect way to get us into the rest of the show. That was a Carlos Alomar riff that he and Bowie used again on the Lodger album for the last track, Red Money. The version Bowie and his band do on the 1976 Vancouver Rehearsals album is fantastic.

If you look down at our play list, you’ll see in our first hour, track 5, the great Molly Nilsson, from Sweden I believe, who lives in Berlin. I’ve seen her perform twice now and she’s always great. You should see her play if you get a chance.

The track after Molly’s, Felt Letters' 600,00 Bands is one of my favorite songs of all time. It’s the great Ian Svenonius teamed up with Brendan Canty, from some band called Fugazi, and you have the Felt Letters. Recently Mr. Ian was on our show on KCRW Santa Monica and he said the lyrics for the song were improvised. No way!

Fanatic, I am 100% sold on our line-up for this show. It’s a perfect mix tape. If you can, listen all the way through. Twice if possible. If all goes according to plan, we’ll be back with you next week.

Thanks for listening and STAY FANATIC!!!
